Your rights: The Education Tribunal for Wales can order a local authority or school to make, amend, or maintain an IDP, and its decisions are binding.

Common pitfall: Because the ALN system is newer, processes can vary noticeably between local authorities while it beds in.

Your voice: DARS works best when you come with a clear, written account of the outcome you want for your child — it gives the process something concrete to work toward.
